Reading to Children Project

Students in the intermediate English Language Development classes participate in a service project called "Reading to Children". Students choose books from our children's library collection to read to younger siblings, family members, neighbors, etc. They talk to the child about the story and have the child draw a picture about what they read together. As they are just learning English themselves, this is a beneficial activity for both the MLA student and the child.

Using the pictures that were taken during activities and events, the students in the intermediate ELD classes wrote captions that were compiled with the pictures into books that were published via Apple's iPhoto, thanks to a grant made possible by the local Rotary Club.
Acts of Kindness
Thanks to the Industry Hills Rotary Club, the students in level 2 and 3 will be participating in an ACTS OF KINDNESS project this year. This will include reading assignments and film activities focused on everyday people who have show kindness to others, creation of a class journal to document acts of kindness that students experience or participate in, production of an ACTS OF KINDNESS podcast next semester to share with our One World Project partners, and reading kindness-related stories to younger children as part of our "Reading to Children" project.
